Pretoria History & Cullinan Diamond Tour
Tour Overview
Begin your journey at the historic Cullinan Diamond Mine, famous for producing the extraordinary 3,106-carat Cullinan Diamond, one of the largest gem-quality diamonds ever discovered. Start with an introductory video before entering the mine premises to learn about diamond mining, the workings of the mine and its impressive machinery.
Continue to the enormous Cullinan open-cast mine, before visiting a local diamond centre to see the skilled process of diamond cutting and polishing. There will also be an opportunity to browse loose diamonds and jewellery.
After lunch, continue to Pretoria, known as the Jacaranda City, where you’ll discover some of the landmarks that tell the story of South Africa’s rich and complex history.
Visit the Voortrekker Monument, an impressive memorial to the Voortrekkers, followed by the Kruger House Museum, the former residence of Paul Kruger, president of the former South African Republic.
Conclude your experience at the magnificent Union Buildings, the official seat of the South African government and the setting for Nelson Mandela’s historic presidential inauguration in 1994.
